The Metro system in Barcelona is fantastic! Coupled with the bus system, it eliminates any other means of transportation needed in the city (though I wouldn’t want to live without my bike!)
Be extremely cautious of your wallet, purse, backpack, travel bag and pockets while walking through the Metro especially if you have a travel bag with you. Meaning – keep your hand on the zip, opening flap, etc. Professional pickpockets operate around the clock and prey on tourists and travelers and are so slick you will never even notice them around you.
Metro operating times:
Monday to Thursday, Sundays and public holidays: Metro open from 05.00 to 24.00
Fridays and days before public holidays: Metro open from 05.00 to 02.00
Saturdays: Metro open 24 hour non-stop
December 24th: Closes at 23:00
Trains
Visit the Barcelona Transportation Network for trip planning, maps, metro, tram via, bus and train information.
Buses
Go to the TMB Bus area of the local transportation site to see bus lines and schedules. There are night buses that run hourly or less for weekdays after the metro closes.
Uber
UBER is not legal in Spain! Don’t rely on this form or transport. If your app does work, it is because taxi drivers have signed up but they use taxi fares and must wait 10 minutes to pick you up.
Taxis
Taxis are multiple and fairly cheap. There are several apps to order taxis, though they are generally very slow (by design). The fastest way to find a taxi is to get close to a hotel if possible and hail one.
